Program Description

The Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) program prepares students with the knowledge, technical skills, and professional competencies required to safely collect blood specimens and support clinical laboratory operations. The curriculum aligns with the National Health Career Association (NHA) or MedCA CPT exam content outline and emphasizes patient safety, infection control, specimen integrity, and professional conduct.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of anatomy and physiology related to phlebotomy
  • Apply OSHA and CDC safety standards, including infection control
  • Perform venipuncture and capillary collection using correct order of draw
  • Properly label, handle, and transport specimens
  • Communicate professionally with patients and healthcare staff
  • Document procedures accurately and comply with legal/ethical standards
